A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an incident in the early hours of the morning.

Police say that the were called to the incident on Ulundi Street, Radcliffe, at 6am today, Sunday, February 5, which has left a man in his 20s in hospital with stab wounds.

He is said to be in a stable condition with “non-life-threatening injuries”.

One resident reported the sounds of shouting at around 6.30am today, which she said woke her and her husband up.

"There was an ambulance parked outside my house and police further down the street," she added.

A police spokesperson has confirmed that a 34-year-old man has been arrested “on suspicion of attempted murder”.

He has been taken into custody to be questioned by detectives.

A resident who lives on Ulundi Street said that although he did not hear anything at the time the incident is said to have taken place, he was “not surprised” to learn about it as he has also been a victim of violent crime in the area recently.

“I was robbed round here on Christmas day. I just stepped outside for a cigarette and a group pulled up with balaclavas, machetes, and guns," he said.

Three police vehicles were still on the scene, parked in the backstreet behind Unlundi Street, this afternoon at around 4pm.

There was also a cordon in place at one end of the backstreet at this time.

Crime scene investigators could be seen entering a property from the backstreet as they examined the scene for evidence.

The police spokesperson said that there were “several scenes in place across Radcliffe and Stoneclough with no wider disruption to the surrounding area”.

However, there was no further obvious police presence in the immediate area surrounding Ulundi Street or in Stoneclough.

The spokesperson added: “The investigation is on-going, and officers are continuing to follow up a number of lines of enquiry.
