An investigation is underway after a man’s jaw was broken in an assault ‘believed to have been of a homophobic assault.’
The man is believed to have been attacked while waiting for a taxi on Atherton Road, Hindley on Saturday December 10 late last year at around 11pm.
He had been attending Monaco Ballroom for a Bongo’s Bingo event and police have this week released a CCTV images of a man they believe may hold vital information about the incident as well as appealing for another man and two women to come forward.
Police Constable Alex Wright of GMP’s Wigan district said: “We are now appealing for anyone who may have seen what happened or who may know who this person is as well as helping us identify the other people described so they can assist with our investigation.
“After conducting a number of enquiries since the incident was reported shortly after it happened, we are now in a position to ask for the help of the public into what was a serious assault we believe may have been of a homophobic nature.
"The victim is continuing to be supported whilst the investigation is ongoing.”
The man has been recovering form a broken jaw since the attack.
Police say that they believe the assault was homophobic because of slurs directed at the victim.
As well as the man shown in the CCTV image, police also want to speak to two women, both white, one with long blonde hair, a lean build and around five feet six inches in height, the other with long brown curly hair and of a medium build.
Another white man was also present of a bigger build, in his late 20s with short brown hair, all are said to have Manchester accents.
