Four pools in Bolton have signed up to a swimming products recycling scheme.
The idea behind the scheme run by Leisure Loops, aims to address the amount of waste generated by pools that reaches landfill or gets incinerated each year.
The Sir Jason Kenny Centre as well as Farnworth, Horwich and Westhoughton Leisure Centres have signed up to the scheme.
Bolton Community Leisure, which runs the pools in partnership with Serco Leisure, have teamed up with swimming products company, Zoggs to provide Leisure Loops recycling boxes.

All boxes will be Zoggs-branded to make it easy for customers to identify where to put their unused swimming products, such as goggles, flip-flops and floats.
Mahendra Patel Partnership Manager for Bolton Community Leisure said: “This is an important initiative and one I’m sure our customers will be keen to support.
“We’re determined as an operator to do all we can to reduce our environmental impact and this scheme fits in perfectly with our commitment to Maintain a Fitter Future, a green project we launched at all centres in 2022 to demonstrate more transparency on how we use energy around our facilities.
“I would encourage all customers to look out for the blue Zoggs’ boxes at each of the centres. and check out our websites for details of all the products we’re collecting.

“It’s worth noting that if every pool in the UK filled just one box, around 55 tonnes of waste could be recycled into new products.”
Cllr Nadim Muslim, Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Environmental Services added: “The leisure industry uses a lot of equipment and products that cannot be recycled by conventional methods.
“This is a great initiative and another way for people to reduce their environmental impact.”
Bolton Community Leisure in partnership with Serco Leisure and on behalf of Bolton Borough Council runs five centres across the region: the Sir Jason Kenny Centre, plus Farnworth, Leverhulme Park, Horwich and Westhoughton Leisure Centres.
