A women’s group is leading a hike to Rivington Pike in the dark for International Women’s Day.
Wild Women Adventure with Soul is based around spirituality and nature.
With more than 4,000 women involved, the band of women have organised Light Up Rivington Pike, a walk which will incorporate the reading of inspirational quotes and poems at the top before taking a drone takes a picture of those gathered.
The walk will take place on March 8.
Marita Thompson started the group a year ago and completed the same walk last year with just 40 women, but as the group has grown, she expects more women to take part in the hike.
She said: “We chose Rivington because the group started in Greater Manchester and many women are closer to here, but also we know this route well so it is safer.
“I suffered with mental health myself and went through a dark period.
“I found that my love for spirituality and nature really helped me so I wanted to help others and connect with likeminded women.”
After joining local hikes, herself, Marita launched her own group and now cover the entire UK as well as Greater Manchester.
She said: “I have made so many friends , this is one of the best things I have ever done.
“Last year’s walk felt amazing, it’s like a female revolution.
“It’s enabling and empowering women as well as raising awareness because many women do not realise things like this are going on.
“They may have been in a dark place and think they are stuck in a rut and not getting out there, so this will show them women are getting together in their area doing things we like in nature.”

Wild Women Adventure With Soul also put on several retreats during the year, taking women to places includding the Lake District for a weekend at just £50 for the whole trip, food and board included.
The idea is to make the retreats accessible for all and not just an Instagram trend worth lots of money.
Anyone can turn up to the hike with a light to hold at the end. Find out more at https://www.facebook.com/groups/241365791361999
