A popular Darcy Lever pub has announced its “grand opening” date following a refurbishment.
The Volunteer pub will welcome punters back through its doors on Thursday March 2 having shut for renovations on January 9.
Inside the pub has been completely ripped out, with no seating against the walls, including removing the carpet, and giving the toilets a complete makeover in a “six-figure plus amount” job.
With a packed schedule ahead, landlord Derek Gallagher “can’t wait” to share that hard work that has gone into a “top to bottom” refurbishment.
He said: “As most of you know for the last few weeks the pub has undergone a major refurbishment from top to bottom and more hard work is continuing to make it ready for our grand opening.
“Yes, we have been met with some obstacles but that won’t deter Tonge Leisure who won’t let things get in there way.

“The suspense is nearly over, and we can’t wait to see you all.”
The new landlord, who has 20 years’ experience in the industry, was keen to take on a challenge and has plenty planned for the future.
Derek says there is “exciting times ahead” at the pub, with the likes of the Cheltenham horse racing festival, St Patrick’s Day, Easter Bank Holiday and King Charles III’s coronation all celebrated there.
He added: “We also have on June 3, Vogue Duo, a fantastic act for everyone.
“In between we will be having monthly quiz nights, bingo nights, darts, dominoes, and pool nights, plus a fine range of premier wines spirits and beers plus cask ales awaits you all.”
The Volunteer will also be showing live sports throughout the day via BT and Sky.
Derek is a familiar face to pub goers, having previously been in charge at the Queen Elizabeth in Great Lever.

Derek is running the pub – which is managed by Tonge Leisure - with is son 22-year-old son, Elliot.
Speaking to The Bolton News on the announcement of the refurbishment, Derek said: “There are not many companies out there that invest in their businesses more than Tonge Leisure.”
The Volunteer pub is now the only pub in the village, with the other three closing down.
