A new pelican crossing on Chorley New Road is set to be completed and operational by the beginning of March.
Work has begun on the crossing, which is hoped will provide safer access to the notorious road for pedestrians.
Situated close to the junction with New Hall Lane, the crossing is in close proximity to the Bolton School Foundation and Clevelands Preparatory School.
Cllr Andy Morgan, ward councillor for Heaton and Lostock, has confirmed that the highways department believes it is on track for the work to be completed in by "mid-February", and the crossing will be usable for pedestrians by "early March".
Cllr Morgan also raised the issue to the highways department of the need for a 'keep clear' box at the New Hall Lane junction.

This was then considered by Transport for Greater Manchester who have confirmed that it will be included.
The crossing has been hailed as a "good move" by Cllr Morgan, who says it will not only benefit those on foot, but also help make the busy road safer for motorist and cyclists too.
He said: "It’s a welcome addition to Chorley New Road. We’ve been wanting it for years.
“It means it’ll be safer to cross the road for pedestrians, particularly pupils at Bolton School and Clevelands."
Bolton School's head of foundation Philip Britton has also welcomed the measure, which he says will encourage people to walk to and from school more due the feeling safer doing so.
He added: “We know there are already issues with the timing of the Tudor Road lights that have caused congestion ever since those were changed a year or so ago and we hope that planners have given careful thought to traffic flow as well.”
