The leader of a litter picking group has published shocking images of woodland areas awash with rubbish.

Andy Capstick from the Litter Pickers of Astley Bridge group shared the pictures from all around Bolton including woodlands in Halliwell and alleys near Bolton Town Centre and from the Rumworth ward.

The photos show heaps of rubbish lying around.

And now Andy wants people to volunteer around their area to help clean the town up.

The Bolton News:

Areas include Weston Street in Great Lever, View Street and St. Peters Way.

Andy said: “It is disgusting the amount of rubbish in the woodland areas and even though we try to go round cleaning some of these areas, the council need to do more.

“I asked the council about St Peter’s Way A666 and they told me they couldn’t do it in the winter.

"But everything was cleaned for the King’s visit.

The Bolton News:

“I don’t tend to clean the alleyways because the people who live there are happy to live among it, but the wildlife don’t have a choice and so we work hard to clean the areas for them.”

Andy and his group of volunteers are often out cleaning woodland areas around Bolton and need more people to help them to keep Bolton clean and the habitats of the wildlife, safe.

The Bolton News:

He said: “I live in Astley Bridge and before I moved here from Cumbria, I never saw fly tipping.

“I started on my own to clean up, planting flowers and plants, and then people joined me.

“In Halliwell we have just done over 6,000 bags.

“There’s TVs and furniture and recently I found a crisp packet from 1999 outside the Wilton Arms.”

Bolton Council has got tough on fly-tippers taking them to court where they have been issued with hefty penalties.
