A man has been released by police after an attack in Bolton on Friday.

Officers were called to Deane Road at around 5pm after reports of a large group of men assaulting another man.

A 23-year-old was taken to hospital for "minor injuries" following the incident.

Police arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of assault or wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

This afternoon, Sunday, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said he has been released with no further action being taken.

A force spokesperson added that the injuries caused "very minor".

Superintendent Richard Thompson of GMP Bolton Division made a statement yesterday praising the "quick action" from officers.

He said: “I am pleased with the quick action from officers who arrived on the scene and took appropriate action to bring the matter to a swift conclusion.

“Thankfully no-one was seriously injured but Greater Manchester Police will not tolerate violent disorder."
