Snow has started to fall in Bolton and Bury this evening as a yellow weather is in place.
The alert for snow and ice will remain in force until midnight tomorrow.
Temperatures in the area are struggling to reach above zero.
Light snow in Bolton is expected to fall intermittently in the early hours.
Temperatures tomorrow will rise to 4 degrees and the forecast is for winter sunshine.
Thursday is expcted to be colder.

The Yellow Weather warning stretches across Greater Manchester, up as high as Lancaster and down as far as Stoke on Trent.
The yellow weather warning indicates there could be longer journeys on public transport and risk off falls on icy patches.

Forecasters have warned temperatures could stay below average into next week in parts of the UK as the cold spell continues, with lows of minus 8C predicted on Tuesday night.
