A popular village pub has closed for a few weeks to allow a major refurbishment.
Derek Gallagher took over The Volunteer pub in Darcy Lever, at the end of October last year, after previously running the Queen Elizabeth in Great Lever.
The new landlord was keen to take on a challenge and says that there is a lot planned for the future.
Derek runs the pub with his son Elliot, aged 22, which is managed by Tonge Leisure.
He said: “The Volunteer Pub Darcy lever closed its doors on January 9 for a few weeks while we give the old lady a major refurbishment.

“There are not many companies out there that invest in their businesses more than Tonge Leisure.
“I finally got to see the plans the other day as to what’s happening, and it blew me away to see what major improvements are being made.
"Tonge leisure are spending a six figure plus amount on the site to make it a community led pub.
“Sorry for any inconvenience caused during this major refurbishment but the old lady was getting a bit tired.
"More details will follow."
Inside the pub has been completely ripped out, with no seating against the walls, including removing the carpet, and giving the toilets a complete makeover.
Derek has worked in the industry for 20 years and says he 'enjoys' his life.
He is planning to stay at the pub for the foreseeable future.
The Volunteer pub is now the only pub in the village, with the other three closing down.
Derek said: "We are friendly and welcoming, with a lot of sports games and live music every month.
“It’s a very community run pub.”
Campaigner for defibrillators Claire Axon, recently raised money for a defibrillator box, which has now been installed at The Volunteer Pub, and training is expected to be set up.
The pub has a wide selection of cask ales, with as many as 13 to choose from.
Customers can also expect a big choice of wines, and all the popular gins.
A reopening date has not yet been confirmed, but Derek has asked customers to keep checking his Facebook page or The Volunteer’s page.
