A pub in Bromley Cross will be back open serving drinks this weekend after it was shut when a “major fire” caused serious damage.
The Railway pub in Bromley Cross was forced to close its doors on Friday December 30, which is one the busiest trading seasons for pubs.
After firefighters from Bolton Central and Bolton North used equipment to put the fire out, water came through to the pub downstairs.
The pub has since been repaired, and painted downstairs, including the lighting.
But the upstairs fire involving a tumble drier has caused extensive damage to the electrics and equipment, meaning that they are currently unable to serve food.
Landlord of the pub Mike Hales said: “It’s good to be back open for the community.
“We will just be open for the weekend for the minute.
“We still have a lot of work to do, and can’t do food at the moment, but we are hoping to get some food next weekend.
“This may be limited whilst upstairs is renovated, so this may be pizzas and snacks.”
This week the pub will be open Thursday 3-10pm, Friday 3-11pm, Saturday 12-11pm, and Sunday 12-9pm.
Mike said: “We'd love to feel your continued support at The Railway this weekend.
“We will work over the coming weeks to reinstate the electrics and equipment that will enable the kitchen to reopen.
“The rebuild starts here.”
At the time of the fire there were around eight members of staff on duty, with 40-50 customers inside.
No-one was hurt following the incident.
The fire caused electrical damage and around £6-7k worth of food was lost due to the preparation and storage areas being extensively damage.
The food was donated to the charity Bolton Nice and some others in the area.
Prior to opening this weekend for drinks, the pub has remained closed to allow insurance companies to assess the damage and loss.
