Roadworks which started this week in Westhoughton, Wednesday, January 4, are due to last four weeks "weather permitting".
The work to resurface the carriageway and improve the drainage began on the A6 Manchester Road/Chorley Road near the Wimberry Hill Road junction after the New Year bank holiday.
Residents are being warned that access to their homes may be restricted at certain points throughout the process.

In a letter to local residents notifying them of the works Bolton Council said: “During the works temporary traffic signals will be in operation to enable the works to be undertaken. Access to the properties will be maintained, however there will be times during the works when access will be restricted.
“During the works can residents please keep A6 Manchester Road/Chorley Road (Bolton Road – Wimberry Hill Road) clear of vehicles during the working day to enable the works to be undertaken. The contractor undertaking the works will advise residents nearer the time.”
As well as queues and noise from the road works, then scheme may also cause issues for households close to the affected area when attempting to put out their rubbish and recycling bins.
The council said: “If you waste or recycling bins are due to be emptied during the road or resurfacing works, please present them at the nearest accessible point if vehicle access is prohibited e.g., at the start or end of the roadworks. This will ensure that your bins can be emptied on the usual collection day.

“The Council would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused to local residents and road users, but every effort will be made to keep this to a minimum. Your patience would be appreciated during this time.”
The council would also like to prevent any unnecessary harm throughout the duration that the works are taking place.
It added: “As you are aware, construction sites are dangerous places. May we ask you to be vigilant during this period to ensure that people, and particularly children, do not try to gain entry into the working area.”
