Bolton's Conservative MPs received tickets to awards ceremonies and sports events worth more than £2,600 last year, from the BAFTAs to the British GP.

The information is all contained in the register of interests, a record of interests which could be considered to influence an MP's actions or words of which the latest was released on December 12.

Chris Green, MP for Bolton West, attended the final of the Rugby League World Cup after an invitation from the Betting and Gaming Council.

There is currently an ongoing Gambling Review by the government. The review started more than two years ago with a 'white paper' still to be published.

Mark Logan, MP for Bolton North East, attended the BAFTAs and the British GP after invitations from Channel 4 and Motorsport UK.

According to the register of interests, the tickets Mr Green received to the final of the Rugby League World Cup were worth around £800.

The tickets Mr Logan received to the BAFTAs and to the British GP were worth around £1,800.

Mr Green told The Bolton News: "It is common for the big sports events to invite some local MPs. This part of the world is a strong representative in Rugby League. When I was invited to attend the World Cup, I was delighted to accept.

"We have a transparent system so people can see whether there is a conflict of interests. The government is doing a Gambling Review and we will have to see what the government comes up with, and whether there is anything to vote on."

Meanwhile Yasmin Qureshi, the Labour MP for Bolton South East, accepted no such invitations last year, although she declared four trips at a cost of more than £7,200 to multiple organisations.

Ms Qureshi went to Alanya, Turkey and to Saudi Arabia for talks on a range of issues from pilgrimage to tourism and trade, and to Austin, Texas and to Oslo, Norway to attend two conferences.

Mr Green declared no trips, while Mr Logan attended a conference in Cadenabbia, Italy at a cost of more than £600 to the organisers, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (Konrad Adenauer Foundation).

Approached for a comment, the office of Ms Qureshi said the MP had nothing to add to the information released on December 12, which is available to the public on the UK Parliament website.

The office of Mr Logan was also approached for a comment.
