A Bolton doctor has reassured residents that help is available over the festive and New Year period.
Whilst GP practices will be closed during some of the holiday season, there will be an out of hours services available, through the usual practice number any time.
People can also call NHS 111 if they need medical help or advice online or on the phone.
But the public is still urged to contact 999 if they are in a life threatening emergency or have an urgent health problem.
Dr Niruban Ratnarajah said: “This time of year, there are always lots of winter viruses and illnesses in circulation, and we know this can be worrying. It can be even more worrying when you have young children, and some health services are reduced because of the Christmas period.
“Your usual GP practices are closed for some of the holiday period, but there is always help available should you need it.
“The out of hours service is available for help and advice. You can contact them via your usual practice number, at any time of day or night.
“If you need medical help or advice, NHS 111 either on the phone or online are always on hand, but in a life threating emergency or if you have an urgent health problem, always call 999 or visit your nearest emergency department.
“It’s such a busy time for health services, but we are always here to help – whether that be your local GP, pharmacy, 111 services or at hospital. Wishing you all a very happy and healthy holiday time.”
