Bolton’s rich industrial heritage will be celebrated at a museum in the borough this festive season.

Bolton Steam Museum on Mornington Road will be holding its last steamings of the year on Wednesday 28 and Thursday 29 December from 10am to 4pm.

Admission to the event is free, although donations to Northern Mill Engine Society are welcomed.

The event is a perfect opportunity to see Bolton’s own industrial history in the flesh.

The museum, which is a volunteer-run charity, holds in its possession 30 old stationary steam engines, some of which had powered the cotton mills and woollen mills of Lancashire and Yorkshire.

Included in their roster of engines are six which were built in Bolton, three from Musgraves, one from Hick Hargreaves and two from smaller engine builders.

The steam museum’s oldest engine is over 180 years old, with most being well over 100 years old.

Free parking is available on the Morrison’s Supermarket off Chorley Old Road.
