A police traffic operation has seen several vehicles seized and a number of people stopped for driving offences.

The operation was carried out across Whitefield over the course of Friday by officers from GMP Bury South after recent complaints from people in the area.

They have now reported that people were stopped for a wide range of offences.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Friday saw neighbourhood officers and GMP Specials carry out a traffic operation in Whitefield after recent complaints.

“This included two vehicles seized, one footpath obstruction, two mobile phone offences, nine seatbelt offences, one due care and attention case, three reported drivers with no insurance, one HGV weight limit case, 17 speeding offences and three defective lights.”

This comes amid long running concerns about crime on the roads in Whitefield and elsewhere in Bury as well as further afield in Greater Manchester.

This has included speeding, dangerous driving and drink and drug driving offences as well as incidents of anti-social driving and cases of car theft.

Anyone with any concerns about crime or anti-social behaviour on the roads has been urged to call 101 or 999 in the event of an emergency.

Alternatively, witnesses can call independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
