Men who are suffering with mental health difficulties in Bolton will be given a new space in which to open up from next month.

Andy’s Man Club has 113 locations across the UK and started off in West Yorkshire.

It holds sessions at Bury Sports Club and the Victoria Park Stadium in Chorley.

And after seeing that people from Bolton were travelling to these locations, it has opted to bring sessions to the borough.

The group will hold meetings at 7pm at the University of Bolton Stadium every Monday excluding bank holidays.

Lucas Whitehead from the group said: “It is a walk in group for men above the age of 18.

“There is no registration.

“We pass a ball around and ask five questions that are geared around wellbeing and experiences they had have and the sessions last around 90 minutes.

“Question one is how has your week been?

“Question two is can you give me a positive?

“Question three is is there anything you need to get off your chest. It can be from 20 years ago it can be the week before.

“After this we have a break, a cuppa and a biscuit and then reconvene.

“In the break the men will talk to each other, they will get a bit of support.

“Questions four and five change every week.

“Question four could be what is one positive thing you are going to do for your mental health this week?

“Question five can be what is your guilty pleasure song, something to get a smile on their faces.”

Across the group’s 113 other locations nationwide, 2,300 people attend each week.

Of these, between 200 and 300 will be there for their first session.

While some are regulars, others will get what they need out of one session or decide it is not for them but the majority return.

Mr Whitehead added: “The biggest killer of men under 50 is suicide.

“Some but not all men will find it difficult to open up with women.

“We are really looking forward to getting set up in Bolton, elsewhere we have seen some really good results.

“We set up in West Yorkshire which is similar in that there is still a lot of stigma.”
