A school at the heart of the community is celebrating a first class report by Ofsted.

Ladybridge Secondary School has been rated good in all areas.

Ofsted described the school as a welcoming place for young people who learn in a calm and 'purposeful' environment.

Inspectors stated: "Leaders have high expectations with regards to pupils’ behaviour and achievement. Most pupils rise to these expectations."

The inspection team that was led by His Majesty’s Inspector Rebecca Sharples.

The extra-curricular activities available for young people were praised.

The report stated: “Pupils are encouraged to engage with the local community through the school leadership academy programme.

“Pupils talk with enthusiasm about the school farm, which they are able to visit and volunteer in.

“Pupils benefit from an extensive range of extra-curricular clubs, for example swimming, hockey and an LGBTQ+ group.”

The environment was said to be a welcoming one, including for students with special educational needs and/or disabilities and disadvantaged pupils.

“Pupils are proud to attend the school,” the report said.

Student are reported to feel of safe at the school. There was reported that they someone to talk to if they have any worries or concerns.

It was also noted that pupils are confident that staff will deal with incidents of bullying “quickly and effectively”.

Paddy Russell, headteacher at Ladybridge, says that the school is delighted with the result of the inspection.

He added: “We have worked incredibly hard on the curriculum since our inspection last year and it is pleasing that the quality of this work has been recognised. 

“The inspectors could also see the impact of our work on assessment and responsive teaching. 

“Perhaps the most pleasing of all was the feedback on how safe our learners feel in school and how they respect one another’s differences and value the school’s diversity. 

“It is remarkable how our learners’ character and confidence grow during their time at the school. This is highlighted in the inspection report. 

“I am appreciative of the wonderful feedback given to Ofsted from our learners, staff, parents, and carers. 

"Our improvement over recent years, during a very challenging time, has involved an incredible team effort from the school community.”
