A renewed warning has gone out about the dangers of children playing on ice covered water.
This comes after the tragic events in Solihull this week after three children died after being pulled from an icy lake.
Parents in Bolton and elsewhere across the city region have now been warned to keep their own children safe from similar fates.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Despite the recent tragic incident in Solihull reports are still coming in of children playing on ice covered ponds and lakes.
“It may seem obvious but please tell your children not to enter ice covered stretches of water.
“It's not just the risk of drowning if the ice breaks but also the health dangers of being submerged in freezing cold water.”
The events in Solihull caused widespread shock after three boys aged eight, 10 and 11 died.
The danger is likely to be particularly present in Bolton with many of the borough’s parks containing lakes while the Rivington reservoir remains a popular destination, especially with children soon set to be on holiday for Christmas.
Anyone with any concerns can call police on 101 or in the case of an emergency they can call emergency services as soon as possible on 999.
