Bolton turned into a Winter Wonderland this weekend with snow falling across the borough as temperatures dropped.
With runways stopped at Manchester Airport on Saturday and the snow causing problems for drivers on motorways, the weather proved to be difficult but for some the snow brought pure joy as families created snowmen and enjoyed the snowfall.
The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for snow and ice from Thursday and remained in place today until midday.
Residents were urged to take extra care as they travelled around the borough as temperatures were forecast to reach a minimum of 1C feeling like -2C at times.
And although the snow has stopped in Bolton for the time being, the Met Office are warning the cold snap could be here for a while.
Met Office spokesman Grahame Madge said: “The outlook for the UK remains cold at least for the next seven days, with the potential for this to continue even longer.”
The weather throughout the coming week will remain on the colder side with temperatures being 1C until Friday but with temperatures actually feeling like -6C at times.
Families and businesses continued to spread the festive cheer yesterday despite the snowfall.
The Co-Op on Tonge Moor Road organised a community Winter Wonderland Funday.
The Co-Op staff, team leaders, Ray Deluce, Aby Mottershead and Wendy Taylor, store manager, have been running events this week to give back to the local community and bring people together.
On Friday the food retail shop had carol singers from Moorgate County Primary School Choir, who sang outside the shop and yesterday shoppers were wowed by the Tonge Moor School Academy, as they also sang outside the store.
The store also have a Twelve Days of Christmas Raffle, where each day from December 12, the shop has a different prize each day leading up to the 24th where one person can win an entire Christmas dinner.
However, the UKHSA are continuing to advise people to look out for friends and family who are vulnerable in the cold and to ensure they have access to warm food and drinks, adding that people should maintain indoor temperatures of at least 18C (64.4F).
