Bolton School Girls’ Division has been recognised as among to top 10 independent schools in the North West.

The school is rated ninth best in the region in The Sunday Times’ Parent Power Schools Guide 2023.

The rankings in the secondary school league tables are determined by the percentage of examination entries gaining A*-B at A-Level - which is given double weighting - and the percentage of entries returning A* and A grades, and those graded 9, 8 and 7, at GCSE and iGCSE.

The Girls’ Division achieved 80.8 per cent A-Level grade A*-B, and 68.8 of GCSE entrants achieved A*, A, 9, 8, or 7.

This also placed the school 180th among independent schools nationally.

Mrs Lynne Kyle, head of Bolton School Girls’ Division, said: “I am delighted to see that Bolton School Girls’ Division features in the list of top ten independent schools in the North West based on our outstanding results at A Level and GCSE.

“Being one of the largest independent schools in the region enables us to provide a wealth of academic and extra-curricular opportunities for all our pupils, who are drawn from diverse geographical and socio-economic backgrounds.

“In addition to the results here, we are very proud of the level of pastoral care that we are able to provide, as we recognise that student welfare and positive mental health are key to their success and growth.

“All of this could not be achieved of course without the hard work of our pupils and staff and the support of our parents.”

Sixth Form pupil Isabella Morgan said: “The help provided to pupils is incredible. Teachers go out of their way to give us the best support possible, and the opportunities we have outside the classroom in areas such as music and drama, trips, outdoor learning and sport are fantastic.

“I am looking forward to going to University next year and I feel that my experiences here have prepared me well for life after school.”

Parent Power is widely acknowledged as the most authoritative survey of the country's best schools.

The results were published online at thetimes.co.uk/parentpower on Friday December 9 and in a supplement in The Sunday Times today, December 11.
