The chief executive of an historic charity has made the 'difficult and emotional decision' to stand down from the role in the New Year.
Karen Edwards has been at the helm of Bolton Lads and Girls Club since she replaced 'Mr Lads and Girls Club' Jerry Glover in 2010, although she started as a volunteer at the organisation in 1995.
In this time, Karen has been at the heart of a number of developments at the historic charity, including the multi-million-pound redevelopment of its Infinity site on Spa Road completed over the summer as well as ensuring those in the outlying districts also benefit.
The organisation is held up as a national model for others to follow.
Around 10 years ago, she received an OBE for services to children and young people.
Karen said: "Bolton Lads and Girls Club will always have a special place in my heart.
"It has been a difficult and emotional decision to make. The impact we have with children and young people across Bolton is immense and I have been proud and privileged to lead such a special charity."
She added: "Bolton Lads and Girls Club is ready for its next phase of growth with a committed team and an ambitious board of trustees.
"I look forward with confidence to seeing the developments come to fruition."
In the New Year, Karen will take on a role as the chief executive of Derian House, a children's hospice located in Chorley, Lancashire.
The search is on at Bolton Lads and Girls Club for someone who will add as much to the charity's legacy, which started with its establishment in the 1880s, since which time it has supported several generations from some of the most deprived and disadvantaged areas in the town.
Dave Singleton, an ex-businessman who is the chairman of its board of trustees, said: "I and the board of trustees are confident Bolton Lads and Girls Club will find a person befitting of the ambitions of the role and of the pioneering heritage of Bolton Lads and Girls Club.
"We cannot thank Karen enough for her unwavering commitment, passion, enthusiasm, and the motivation she has shown. She will be greatly missed by the staff, trustees, members, patrons and partners alike."
