Bolton Christmas lights will be switched on tonight as tickets go on sale for Bolton's Christmas festival.
The switch on will take place at 5pm illuminating the town and starting the countdown for Christmas.
In line with many other places the switch on is more low key than previous years, but there will be magical art show projected in Le Mans Crescent.
Bolton is to become a magical winter wonderland with an all-new roller-skating rink, a special Santa’s Grotto experience, traditional Christmas market, festive tipi complete with live music, twinkling Christmas lights plus much more to see and do.
Following the success of the 2021 festival, this year will bring even more family fun and a focus on children’s activities.
Santa’s Grotto will be in Crompton Place on December 3,4,10,11 and December 15-24.
A full grotto with ‘live Santa’ and individual gifts for children will take up residence.
Tickets are £5 per child or £14 for a family ticket -max three children, adults free max two adults per ticket.
New for 2022 will be an indoor roller-skating rink at the former BHS from December 15 to January 8, plus additional family-friendly events and activities.
Tickets are £5 per child, £7 per adult, £16 for a family ticket - two adults and two children).
Alongside the ticketed events will be the return of the traditional Christmas market from December 15-18 December, hosting 30 wooden style, festively dressed, chalets.
From, December 9 to January 8, Victoria Square will be home to festive Tipi bar which will host a wide range of performances from local bands and artists. Bolton FM will also host a ‘Bolton’s got Talent’ competition with the winning act gaining a place on the stage at the 2023 Food and Drink Festival.
Traditional fairground attractions will be in operation from Newport Street to Deansgate from December 3 to December 24
The Christmas light switch will see festive imagery projection will light up Le Mans Crescent during the festival which will bring a unique, magical feel to the town centre.
Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr Martyn Cox said: “This year’s festive activities have a real family feel and there is something for everyone.
“Our Christmas program always brings the crowds to Bolton and this year will be no exception. The roller-skating rink is an exciting new addition.
“I encourage residents and visitors to come to the town centre, do their Christmas shopping and enjoy some family festive fun.”
