A Bolton schoolboy was invited to a very special Christmas light switch on  - at 10 Downing Street.

Milan Kuman, 10, met the Prime Minister as the festive occassion, which was complete with Christmas carol singing and a brass band.

After a five second countdown PM Rishi Sunak lit up the tree.

This year's tree came from Staffordshire.

Milan received a personal invitation to attend.

During the event, Milan also met Mr Sunak’s wife Ashkata Murty.

He said: “I had the honour and privilege of meeting the Prime Minister and his wife at 10 Downing Street.

“They are such lovely, friendly, down to earth people.

“Thank you for welcoming me into your home.

“The Prime Minister welcomed me with a friendly smile and a ‘hi.”

The invitation was in response to the work he has done in the community to make a difference to others.

The Prime Minister also welcomed Ukrainians who had found shelter in Britain, serving personnel from Catterick Garrison in Yorkshire and Points of Light award winners for the event.

Milan has received praise nationally for his self-published book in 2020 called Covid Christmas Parade.

The story is about a young boy spreading festive cheer during the pandemic with proceeds from the book going towards the National Literacy Trust.

He managed to raise over £10,000 by supporting the charity.

He was praised by the Duchess of Cornwall, who is a patron for his efforts.

Milan has also received The Diana Award, which is the most prestigious accolade a young person aged 9-25 years can receive for their social action or humanitarian work.

He was nominated for the award by the National Literacy Trust.

At aged nine, Milan was awarded the ‘British Citizen Award 2021’ for charitable fundraising to support children and families most affected by Covid-19.

During the first lockdown, he read 50 books in three months and was inspired to join the ‘National Literacy Trust’, where for ten days he cycled 50 laps of the University of Bolton Stadium.

Milan also completed another challenge in 2021 which involved five days of hiking, cycling and skiing.
