A special service was held at Overdale Crematorium before colleagues celebrated the life of the ‘funny character’ George was.
Owner of the scrapyard, Terry Walker said: “Well it was important just to remember him.
“Sixteen years seemed to have gone by fast and wanted really to provide peace and a decent life for George,
“He was a character and we got 16 years out of the lad. It was such a shock for him to go and we are so devastated for that to have happened.
“It went well this morning - all of his friends were here, and it was a good send-off for him and they all have respect for him.”
The team raised a glass to George, who was a hit with audiences when they filmed for The Scrappers on QUEST in which cameras follow Metro Salvage.
Friend and fellow scrapper, Ste Cox said: “I worked with him for four years and he was a good worker, one of the best in here.
“He was a proper bloke, he didn’t have much but what he did have, he looked after.
"He was all for The Scrappers, he loved it here. He was in here by early morning and used to sneak through the fence and we had to put a board up so he couldn’t get in.”
His colleagues say George was loved by all and because he had no family, he spent almost all of his time at the scrapyard because he had considered it home.

Gareth Davies only knew him for 12 months but said: “He had the biggest heart and didn’t have much like Ste said, but what he did he was willing to give.”
George's ashes will be scattered at the scrap yard.
