The popular Christmas light switch in Bromley Cross is set to return for another year, filled with lots of traditional festivities.

This year's switch on will have carol singing by local school children in the area, and the Eagley Brass Band.

Mulled wine and mince pies will be served at Walmsley Parish Hall, which have been donated by the Last Drop Village Hotel.

Cllr Sam Connor said: “It’s very exciting for the whole community to come together and listen to carols around the tree with a brass band.

“The Last Drop Village Hotel have very kindly donated the mince pies and mulled wine.

“They do it every year.

“The light switch on is really well attended.”

Reverend Hannah Lane will also carry out a blessing to mark the occasion.

The switch on will be timed with the Turton Young Farmers tractor run in aid of Bolton Mountain Rescue after the service has finished.

Plenty of prizes can also be won at the Walmsley Parish Hall tombola, including games, toys, and alcohol and chocolates for the adults.

Father Christmas will also make an appearance at Santa’s grotto.

Cllr Connor added: “It’s great to do something that’s for all our residents.

“It’s a free community event, which brings the community together so we can share the Christmas festivities.

“There is no cost involved to the community and it has been organised by councillors.

“Santa’s grotto is really lovely and good fun for the children.”

Tickets for the tombola can be bought from Walmsley Parish Hall on the day.

It will take place on December 4 from around 4.15pm onwards at Dunscar War Memorial.

Anyone who is interested in volunteering to help set up for the festivities from 10am onwards should contact Cllr Connor.

She added: “If anyone would like to help set up during the day or serve mince pies etc then you can contact me if you want to be involved.”
