More than 100 bins have not been collected in Bolton.

As many as 117 bins were missed off the rounds 'due to operational issues or access problems' from November 7 to 15 with all different coloured bins being missed.

Areas missed throughout the borough include Smithills, Blackrod, Daubhill, the town centre, Halliwell, Horwich, Heaton, Breightmet, Farnworth and Deane.

The collection if missed should be collected within 48 hours however a few addresses on the missed list will now not be collected until the next scheduled collection.

These include Thorn Street, Rivington Street, Long Lane (2-22), Hazeling Lane, Gibraltar Street, Bury Road (538-600), Boardman Street and Beaconsfield Street.

The council have said there are number of reasons why this could happen including access issues or staff and vehicle issues.

A spokesperson for Bolton Council said: “The Waste Services Team facilitate the collection of 52,000 collections per day.

"We would normally miss less than 100 bins on a normal given day for the reasons mentioned below.

"This represents a usual service success rate of 99.9 per cent of those scheduled collections.

“On occasion and on a small minority of streets, bins are unable to be collected due to access issues.

"This can be due to narrow roads or roadworks which prevent large refuse wagons gaining access.

“Where we come across such circumstances, our bin collection crews will return to these areas later in the day to see if access has improved.

"If by the end of the day access cannot be achieved, our teams carry forward work to the following day and we aim to collect these bins within 48 hours of their scheduled collection day.

“Where there are regular access issues on bin collection day in a particular area, we send our team out to communities to discuss the issue with residents.

"This usually results in a short-term issue being resolved.

"If the problem is long-term, a change to the bin presentation point may be suggested, enabling our crews to collect from a more reliable access point.

“On some occasions we experience operational challenges that require us to delay a small number of bin collections.

"This can be unexpected staff or vehicle issues.

"As above, we aim to collect from all properties within 48 hours of their scheduled collection day."
