This week, we at The Bolton News have been handing out our 2022 Education Awards to schools in the town. These education awards are to celebrate the best in Bolton’s schools, from students to teachers to entire schools.
School of the Year award, sponsored by Bolton Council, goes to St Peter’s CE Primary School in Farnworth.
This award has been awarded to the school which, in the opinion of our judges, has had an outstanding academic year.
This may be improvements in attendance levels, parent engagement or examination results.
St Peter’s CE Primary was visited by Ofsted in September 2021 – their inspector’s verdict summed up the school aptly.
Ofsted stated: “Pupils at St Peter’s flourish. This is because leaders and staff have high expectations of children and pupils and provide them with the very best education that they can. Classrooms are buzzing with the thrill of learning and achieving.”
Lynn Williams, St Peter’s headteacher, said: “It’s absolutely amazing, it’s a thrill and it’s an honour for us. We had Ofsted come, and they go into lots and lots of schools and they gave us a lovely report last year.
“But to win something so close to your community, and to be part of Bolton, and win it for Bolton and with Bolton, I think that’s the most important thing really, cause we’re Bolton through and through.
“So to be recognised in Bolton, for Bolton, is just amazing.
“And the children are absolutely over the moon with it, and the staff too.”
She added: “We’ve got 70 staff here and 420 children, so School of the Year is about all of them as individuals, isn’t it?
“So to actually be able to announce it to all of them, and the staff at the same time, and for them to feel that family atmosphere, the St Peter’s family have won School of the Year, that’s a phenomenal achievement.”
Congratulations also to Beaumont Primary School, Devonshire Road Primary School and Masefield Primary School, which were all Highly Commended for School of the Year.
