A Covid vaccination clinic is due to open for residents of Farnworth and Kearsley after they found themselves having to trek to other parts of the borough to get the jab.

Bolton GP Federation has secured funding from the GM Health Inequalities and Access fund. T

The federation is in the process of organisingsessions in areas of high deprivation in order to specifically address covid vaccine health inequalities.  These sessions will be advertised as soon as they are operational.

Once finalised, the sessions will be advertised.

Stonehill Medical Centre on Piggott Street in Farnworth is considering opening walk ins for anyone in the borough who is eligible to get vaccinated, however the plans need to be fully worked out.

Harper Green Councillor Sue Haworth says: “Residents have been in touch with local councillors asking for access to Covid-19 vaccination in Farnworth.

“People at Plodder Lane searched for a booking and complained that the booking availability was for Breightmet.

“They complain that they have a car and will travel at little inconvenience and do not mind for themselves but people who live near them do not have a vehicle and this annoys them. They feel the offer is not right at all.”

Currently, Covid vaccinations in Farnworth and Kearsley are only available to those who are registered at specific centres.

Cllr Haworth added: “I really hope the plans at Stonehill Medical Centre can materialise as this would offer a convenient site for more residents in Kearsley, Farnworth and other nearby parts of the Bolton borough.

“It is clear that people in Farnworth want more of their own quality health care provision and want access to vaccinations in their town.”

The latest wave of the virus appears to have peaked. The latest evidence shows that infection rates have fallen in all four UK nations for the first time in nearly three months.

People aged 70 and over are still among the highest infected.
