A BOLTON charity wants your help... by getting as many votes as possible to get a share of some cash and help people in need.
The Gannett Foundation is providing the whopping amount of cash to support good causes across the country – and we are delighted to have a £16k share to give away in the North West/North Wales region of our business.
The Bolton Mountain Rescue Team was selected as the local representative as they are a heroic volunteer team who have given aid to people in danger or injured.
The charity needs you to collect tokens from our newspapers which can then be sent to collection points across our region or posted. Each token collected will then be used to allocate cash to the nominated charity – so if your favourite charity collects 50 per cent of all to tokens collected, it will receive 50 per cent of the £16,000!
Steve James, assistant team leader from Bolton Mountain Rescue, says the charity needs to raise £30-40k a year but any cash received will help with funding equipment.
He said: “I want to thank everyone for getting us to this stage in getting the opportunity to try to get funding.
“We support the police looking for missing people, the fire service in water rescues as well as the ambulance service for people who are in hard to reach areas.
“We serve the local community and on average get 100 callouts on busy times and 75 in other times.
“We have to raise £40k each year and we are very grateful for private donations and things like this and also people doing fundraising for us.
“We cover a large area on the borders of Darwen and Manchester then down to Wigan.
“We have to do special training courses so we can administer pain relief to people who need it when they are in a lot of pain and potentially saving lives.
“We don’t think that we are saving lives though, we read about the stress on the NHS and if we can do something to help the casualty then that is good.”
