TWO people have been arrested in connection with human trafficking offences after police carried out a dawn raid on an address in Bolton.

A man and a woman, both from Bolton were arrested this morning following an investigation by police  into women being brought into the country to be forced to work in the sex industry.

A spokesperson for the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit said: "This morning, Wednesday November 9, officers from the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit supported by Greater Manchester Police and Bolton Children's Social Care carried out warrants at an address in Bolton following an investigation into a crime group suspected of trafficking women into the UK for work in the sex industry.

"A 41-year-old man and 33-year-old woman, both from Bolton, have been arrested on suspicion of human trafficking, money laundering, and controlling prostitution for gain.

"The duo is suspected of trafficking women by advertising them on online platforms where they are groomed into adult sex work. 

"The arrests follow an extensive investigation with partners in the Tackling Oorganised Exploitation Programme, Lancashire Police and Greater Manchester Police. 

"They have both been taken to a local police station for questioning."
