The harrowing story of 221 men who went to fight in World War One will be told at tonight's (Wednesday 9) meeting of The Over Hulton Heritage Group meeting.

The talk, 'The Chorley Pals' is given by Stephen Williams.

Stephen tells us the harrowing story of 221 men from the Chorley area who joined up at the start of the Great War in 1914 - many were related, neighbours or friends whilst quite a few worked together in local mills or worshipped at the same church.

They went over the top for the first time at the Battle of the Somme on the July 1, 1916, with over two-thirds being wounded or killed.

Their story ends with the installation of a memorial to them in Chorley town centre in February 2010."

The talk starts at 7pm at the Over Hulton Conservative Club on St Helens Road.

Admission is £4, under 14s free.
