Bolton Hospice has purchased six specialist pressure relieving mattresses after being awarded a £20k grant.
The grant was awarded to the charity from the Morrisons Foundation.
The cash boost will allow the charity to install the mattresses in their inpatient unit, which will vastly improve the comfort of bed-bound patients who receive the professional care from the charity
The specialist equipment will replace previous mattresses showing signs of wear and tear, meaning the needs of the patients can be better met.
Helen Newberry, Inpatient Manager said, "We're thrilled to have received such a generous donation from the Morrisons Foundation.
“The funds will enable us at Bolton Hospice to replace our current foam and air mattresses that are showing signs of wear and tear and purchase high specification mattresses capable of meeting the needs of patients accessing our specialist care at our inpatient unit.”
“The new, state-of-the art mattresses will mean we can continue to provide the highest standard of comfort for patients in the hospice and continue to provide the very best hospice care for local people living with life-limiting and terminal illnesses."
Staff, volunteers, patients, and their families at Bolton Hospice have shared their delight at the amount awarded.
Erin Fuller, Morrisons Foundation Specialist said: “Bolton Hospice provides such a vital service for people with life limiting conditions and offers excellent support to their loved ones, completely free of charge.
“That’s why I’m delighted that we’ve been able to offer this grant to help make patient’s time there as comfortable as possible.
“Supporting charities in the heart of our communities is what the Foundation is all about and I’m very proud that we’ve been able to help such a worthy charity”
The Morrisons Foundation was set up by Morrisons supermarket in 2015 and awards grants for charity projects which help improve people’s lives.
Since launching, over £37m has been donated to hundreds of charities across England, Scotland and Wales.
Bolton Hospice’s consultant-led team of doctors, nurses and other professional staff provide free specialist care and support for local people with terminal or life-limiting illnesses and their families, in the hospice, at the wellbeing hub and at home.
