A passing driver bravely helped to take an injured young man to hospital after disturbances broke out on Sunday evening.
Four people were taken to hospital following the violent scenes around Moses Gate and Little Lever after a fight started on a ‘site off Hall Lane’, according to police.
One motorist told how they stopped to offer assistance after being flagged down on Church Street, Little Lever, near the site.
The motorist, who does not wish to be identified, said: "There was someone huddled on the floor.
"I stopped my car and they ran over with another young male who's leg looked mashed.
"They bundled him into the back of my car and his brother got into the front, I set off to take him to the hospital when a van came out and headed towards my car waving a long metal object from the driver's window.
"They were driving directly towards me and I have to swerve round them and raced to get the young lad to the hospital as he was crying in pain.
"As we drove off I saw the van chasing three males up the hill towards the esso station.
"I had to stop and help I couldn't just drive past as many people before me had done."
At least three people in total were taken to hospital after being injured and have been undergoing treatment for non-life threatening injuries, while four men have been arrested.
Police were called at around 5.20pm and officers, including the force helicopter, arrived on the scene shortly afterwards.
Part of Church Street was taped off in the aftermath of the incident and patrols have been stepped up in response.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “One of the casualties was reported to us and taken to hospital from Church Street in the Little Lever area of the town.
