A Bolton MP says she is ‘delighted’ after being promoted to the frontbench in Parliament.
As of this week Yasmin Qureshi MP, who represents Bolton South East, will now serve as the Labour Party’s shadow minister for women and equalities.
This means that Ms Qureshi, a former criminal barrister who was first elected in 2010, will speak for her party on policies relating to gender equality.
She said: “I am delighted to be rejoining the Labour Party frontbench as Shadow Minister for Women and Equalities.
“Over my 12 years in parliament this policy area has been of significant interest and I look forward to working on it in more detail.”
Ms Qureshi’s role will see her scrutinise her Conservative opposite number Kemi Badenoch MP, who was also appointed just earlier this week.
Ms Badenoch will combine her role with that of Secretary of State for International Trade.

Ms Qureshi will now work under shadow women and equalities secretary and Labour Party chair Annelise Dodds MP as well as continuing in her role representing Bolton South East in Parliament.
Ms Dodds said: “Huge welcome Yasmin Qureshi who is joining Labour’s frontbench as shadow women and equalities minister.
“Together, we’ll take the fight to the Conservatives and their woeful record on equalities.”
