Bolton Central were amongst several fire crews who remained on the scene of a derelict building fire for more than 16 hours yesterday (Monday 24 October).
Firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a derelict building on Poolstock, Wigan, at around 4:30pm yesterday.
As many as nine fire engines attended the scene, with crews from Leigh and Atherton, an aerial appliance, and the Scorpion specialist appliance from Salford also attending.
Residents nearby were told to avoid the area whilst crews made the area safe again.
They were also advised to ensure their doors and windows were closed.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “At 4.30pm yesterday afternoon (Monday 24 October) firefighters were called to reports of fire at a derelict building on Poolstock, Wigan.
“Nine fire engines were quickly mobilised to the incident, including an aerial appliance and the Scorpion specialist appliance from Salford.
“Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels, a jet, and other equipment to swiftly extinguish the fire and make the area safe.
“Residents living nearby were advised to keep their doors and windows closed and to avoid the area while crews carried out their work.
“Firefighters remained at the scene for more than 16 hours.”
