A main road in Bolton is closed after emergency services responded to a crash this evening.
Chorley New Road has been blocked between Beaumont Road and Lostock Junction Lane after an accident occurred earlier this evening.
Witnesses told The Bolton News they believed a cyclist had been injured after they were hit by a vehicle.
GMP Bolton West confirmed the crash on its Facebook page but has not released any further details.
A GMP spokesperson said: “Motorists are advised to avoid the area of Chorley New Road between Lostock Junction Lane and Beaumont Road due to a road traffic accident.”
Following the crash, which occured near Beaumont Road, eyewitnesses rushed to the scene to provide assistance to at least one injured person.
One witness said: "I arrived third on the scene at about 4.16pm and pulled over as I work in theatres as an ODP at the Beaumont Hospital so I’m trained in First Aid, advanced life support and airway and stopped to offer help.
"Luckily a student nurse and GP had also stopped.
"He appeared to have a head injury, so please reiterate how important it is to wear a helmet!”
Highway information service INRIX states that Chorley New Road remains closed.
Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service have been approached for comment.
