The trees are now being gifted to selected community groups to recognise their community contributions.

CEO of Fortalice, Gill Smallwood said: “It’s a huge honour and privilege to be a part of this contribution.

“It’s wonderful to be able to share that with the community because we are going to plant it in the Bolton Parish Church gardens.

“It’s a very proud moment and after discussions with the church, they are quite happy that we want to do that.”

Gill attended the ceremony of being given the trees at the University of Bolton Stadium on Friday, October 14.

The Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Zaman Akhtar was also present and said: “His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenants were asked to nominate organisations and groups they believed made a positive and measurable impact in their communities.

“Greater Manchester Lieutenancy submitted 12 successful nominations and held a presentation event when the trees were distributed to 12 groups from Greater Manchester.

“The tree is a gift from our late Majesty The Queen and are a symbol of the tree that was lit up by the late Queen Elizabeth II in her Jubilee celebrations.”

On the afternoon, the Deputy Mayor Cllr Linda Thomas and Consort along with other Greater Manchester Mayors were invited to the University of Bolton Stadium by the Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester Mrs Diane Hawkins to hand out trees to the 12 recipients.
