The council has made plans to repair a section of town centre road that has been causing damage to vehicles.
The area of Trinity Street which Bolton Interchange has recently been tarmacked and a new road layout has been introduced.
At the junction with Bradshawgate, one motorist told The Bolton News that the new layout is causing damage to vehicles due to the sharp, sudden rise and fall in the road.
The problem has caused Diamond Bus to issue its drivers with a warning that they are not to go down the road when heading for Bury or St Peter’s Way.
The warning, that has been read by The Bolton News, specified that if drivers were to go down that way and damage was sustained by the bus it would be their responsibility.
One driver for the company said: “The new tarmac and road layout is too high and vehicles travelling down past the station over the junction towards Bury are grounding out.
“My own vehicle has not but I drive the bus and they have.
“The road surface is also damaged by trucks grounding out taking chunks of tarmac out.
“You can see the road and watch as vehicles go over and over 20mph cars lift up of ground. That junction is awful.
"When travelling over you get a sick feeling as you feel like going over hump bridge. It will cause accidents.”
The council has been made aware of the issue and have earmarked the road for repair.
A council spokesperson said: “There is an area of surfacing which is defective and will be replaced during an overnight closure next week.
“In the meantime, there are signs in place warning motorists of an uneven road surface and advising them to slow down.”
Diamond Bus is not expected to take matters further, having been in contact with the council about the issue.
A spokesperson for the company said: “We have been in conversation with Bolton Council regarding the tarmac and road layout issues on Trinity Street (Bolton Interchange) so we know they are aware off and are addressing the situation in question.”
