Bolton
Rivington Pike
This is a popular route for walkers and it’s about 3 miles long, depending on which route you decide to take.
You can enjoy walking through Rivington Terraced Gardens and exploring a variety of paths before heading to the Rivington Pike summit.
During the week, keep your eye out for the ruins of an old stone bothy shelter plus you can wander through the Japanese Garden.
The track to Rivington Pike is a steep one but the views are not to be missed.
Providing the weather is on your side, you’ll see views of the Lake District and the Isle of Man.

The Tonge Trail
This walk is 8 miles long and starts at the Cotton Kier Pub and during the route you’ll pass Crompton Way and Hall I’ th’ Wood Museum.
You’ll be able to take in the countryside views on your way through a field.
If you’d like to stop off during the walk, Samuel Crompton’s birthplace near Firwood Fold is an option.
Once you’ve done a full loop of the trail, you’ll finish at the Cotton Kier Pub.
Bury
Burrs Country Park
This is a great spot if you’re looking for a riverside walk.
The route runs alongside the River Irwell and you’ll be a mile away from Bury town centre.
Whether you’re looking to do some canoeing or you’d like to watch the birds, there’s plenty to do at Burrs Country Park.
The park has a pub, café and play area for children so you could make a day of it.

Oldham
Alexandra Park
If you’re looking for a flatter walk, Alexandra Park in Oldham could be ideal for you.
Located near the town centre and with plenty of historical significance, why not give it a try?
The Boating Lake is peaceful and you can indulge by visiting the nearby café.
