A nursery within Bolton College has been rated ‘good’ by Ofsted.
The Earlier Years and Pre-School Centre situated on the Deane Road Campus was visited by the education watchdog last month – just four days after reopening after the summer holidays.
The centre was recognised to be ‘good’ in all areas of assessment.
Inspector David Lobodzinski noted that the children settle well and are safe.
He also highlighted the staff’s support of the children’s emotional wellbeing, which they are particularly focused on in the aftermath of the pandemic.
He added: “Children show positive attitudes towards their learning. They follow their own ideas. For example, during role play, children say that the doll is 'tired' and place it down gently 'to sleep'.
“They show perseverance and a determination to succeed, for example when lifting and carrying a bucket of water outdoors. They use this to make marks with paintbrushes.
“Staff encourage children to develop a good sense of number, for example by modelling counting. Children say that they have two pieces of banana.”
It was also reported that parents “could not ask for a better nursery”, and they praised staff for “being caring and getting to know their children as individuals, helping them to ‘thrive’.”
Audrey West, Manager of the centre, said: “We are so proud to yet again be recognised as a good childcare provider by Ofsted.
“Each child deserves the very best start in life and support that enables them to fulfill their potential.
“I would like to thank our staff for their commitment and dedication, as well as our parents and carers who work in partnership with us to help their children to flourish.”
She also praised the college for the support it gives them - students from departments, such as hair dressing and sport, often run sessions for the children.
Bill Webster, principal of Bolton College, added: “Ofsted’s findings highlight the quality of provision our wonderful Early Years and Pre-School Centre provides, a place where children feel safe, valued, happy and secure.
“Our fantastic nursery manager and her team have created a nurturing environment where children from all backgrounds can excel.
“I am delighted that the quality education and caring environment we provide has been recognised.”
The centre is open to children from across the town irrespective of whether their parent or carer studies at the College.
