New landlords of a village pub say they will be putting the community first - especially during these difficult times as cost of living rises.

Jonni McManus and Daniel Dunne have taken over the Jolly Carter on Church Street in Little Lever

They told The Bolton News that  'community and value for money' s at the heart of everything they are doing.

Jonni believes that supporting the community is “definitely” part of the role of a pub landlord, adding: “Dan is a publican and is very big on community orientation.

“I think you need to help where you can. People are struggling with costs due to inflation.

“You’ve got to support everyone, from toddlers to OAPs.”

One of the schemes they have set up is a ‘Seniors Day Out’ where older people within the community pay £10.95 and are treated to a three-course meal, play bingo, take part in a quiz, and are entertained by a live singer.

There are also prizes to be won.

It takes place on the last Thursday of every month.

Jonni said: “It started when a woman came into the pub for a drink on her own soon after we took over. She told us that there’s not a lot for people her age to do.

“It’s already taking off.

“People come on their own. It gives them the chance to socialise and make friends.”

The pub is owned by the Stonegate Group, and Jonni says that they have been great in helping them bring their ideas to enhance community spirit to life.

“We take a loss on the Seniors Day Out, but Stonegate have been really supportive of all our ideas and said yes to everything we’ve thrown at them,” Jonni said.

And it’s not just the old members of the community that Jonni and Daniel are supporting. They have also set up a ‘Homework Club’, every Thursday from 4pm until 7pm.

Kids can eat for £1 when an adult meal is purchased.

Jonni said: “A local teacher who used to work in the pub comes in to lend a hand to kids and help them with their homework.”

The Jolly Carter also have a number of events planned for Halloween and Christmas.
