A Bolton charity has successfully secured almost £70,000 after its National Lottery Funding bid was approved.

High Hopes for Halliwell-being received £68,400 from The National Lottery Community Fund, which is the largest funder of community activity in the UK.

The charity will now use their funding to provide activities for people who may be socially isolated, have mental health and wellbeing issues, and to provide a safe place for the community.

This new National Lottery funding will also go towards the charities core costs to enable them to provide services at St Paul’s Community Centre on Halliwell Road.

Sharon Bolus, the community development worker at the charity, said: “Thanks to National Lottery players, this grant means that we can carry on supporting our local community.

“We are planning to add more activities and events to our monthly calendar.

“Our community consultation shows a need in more social and physical activities, so we want to provide more of these activities at the community centre.

“This will make a big difference to people’s lives.”

The charity projects support over 300 people in the Bolton area that includes a Parent and Toddler Group, Walking Group, Chair Yoga, Thursday Friends, Line Dancing Class, and Creative Writing Sessions.

The spending of the National Lottery Fund will start in October and the funding will last over three years.

National Lottery players raise more than £30m a week for good causes across the UK.

The National Lottery Community Fund distributes a share of this to projects to support people and communities to thrive.

During the pandemic, in 2020 alone, The National Lottery Community Fund distributed almost £1bn to charities and community organisations across the UK.
