An Asda shopper has been left upset after a new three-item limit is brought in on the 'budget-friendly' range .

After a huge bout of success, Asda’s new ‘Just Essentials’ range has been praised by shoppers for offering cheaper prices on essentials during the cost-of-living crisis.

However, after taking four tins of ‘essentials’ soup to the counter, one shopper was left confused when she was told there was now a three-item limit in all Asda shops.

A university student from Bolton said: “I went into Asda last week and tried to buy four tins of vegetable soup when they made me put one back.

“The whole point of it being a cheaper and more affordable range is that you can buy the ‘essentials’ that you need.

“It was just one extra tin of soup to cover my lunches for that week at work.

“I am just glad that I hadn’t gone in and done my weekly shop, I would have had to empty more than half my trolly.”

Dubbed the "largest ever budget-friendly range", yellow packaged items included food, toiletries and household essentials.

The three-item limit means that shoppers can only purchase three of the same product on the essential range however, shoppers can buy more than three if the products are varied. 

Asda has said the limit is temporary due to the demand being so high. 

An Asda spokesperson said: "Just Essentials is proving really popular at the moment and we’re working hard to get the out-of-stock products back on the shelves as quickly as we can.

"To make sure as many customers as possible can buy these products we are temporarily limiting purchases to a maximum of three of each product.

"This will be for a short period and we will let you know as soon these limits are removed. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.”
