Residents are 'scared' and 'angry' about speeding and near accidents on Chorley New Road.
They say some motorists drive too fast, are on their phones and generally not paying attention on the main road from Horwich to Bolton town centre.
Concerns were raised after what neighbours say was a near accident earlier this week took place on Chorley New Road at the bottom of Ainsworth Avenue, where a woman on a mobility scooter at the traffic lights was almost hit by a vehicle.
Since then residents have expressed their concerns on social media stating this is a reaccuring problem on the road.
Bolton police catch six speeding drivers in crackdown
One resident said: "The dangerous driving is a prevelant issues on roads in all areas to be honest, a lot of drivers just think they are invincible in their cars and don't have a care in the world for other drivers and pedestrians.
"Residents are scared and angry because when incidents do happen nothing changes and the people in the wrong get away with it.
"I regularly walk along Chorley New Road and everyday I see drivers using their phones, speeding or just not paying attention especially around schools.
"Not one single driver takes notice of the orange flashing lights that say 20mph at school times."
Another resident said there is a concern as drivers go through red lights on the road.
They said: "Drivers think they can just barrel through even when they're on red.
"I've almost been hit a few times."
Cllr Anne Galloway has said there is an increased police presence to help tackle the problems.
She said: "Residents have been very concerned about safety on the roads and the number of accidents, especially on Chorley New Road which has seen two very serious accidents at the Beaumont Road junction.
"We have seen an increased police presence on our roads with greater use of enforcement powers against speeding in the past couple of years.
"Operation Portman was launched as part of a long-term commitment to make Bolton roads safer by enforcing driving standards, and educating all users on road safety.
"This week saw police officers on Operation Avro concentrating, amongst other issues, on traffic safety."
Greater Manchester Police officers have previously tried to tackle the problem of speeding incidents in the area.
Police officers launched Operation Portman in response to concerns over the number of serious road incidents in the town.
They worked together to identify drivers who were not using the roads safely and took action against them.
