Three sites, including car parks, around Bolton are set to be sold off to make way for the ongoing redevelopment of the town centre.
This comes after Bolton Council took the decision to list the car parks on All Saints Street East, All Saints Street West and land off Shifnall Street and Saville Street sites for disposal at a meeting earlier this week.
Town hall officials say that this will help to clear the way for further new developments as part of a much wider plan to regenerate the town.
Executive cabinet member for regeneration Cllr Adele Warren said: “Obviously the council has got a lot of car parks that are not really utilised so it makes sense.
“They are now going to be part of the redevelopment of the town centre.”
Questions had been raised about alternative spaces for car parking around the All Saint East and West areas if the sales were approved, but Cllr Warren said that when the proposal was agreed upon very quickly at a meeting on Monday September 26 with no formal objections lodged.
She said: “The council has got a policy of consolidating car parks in the town centre, and it passed without objections.
“We’ve got a lot of plans for the town centre and we just need to make sure we keep getting them off the ground.”
There are no current plans for specific developments on the All Saint East and West car parking sites but a report from Bolton Council says that the potential could be there for more new plans in future.

The Shifnall and Saville Street site in Great Lever is already part of an option agreement with the developers behind the Trinity and Saville projects, which aims to see new housing built in the area.
Cllr Warren hopes that the land sale will help such projects along the way.
The sales will also help to raise money to invest in the council’s existing estate, which is estimated to cost between £25million and £29million and provide money towards the £4million district improvement scheme.
