PUBS in Bolton are introducing 'recession busting' menus by reducing prices so people can afford to eat and drink out in the face of the cost-of-living crisis.
With inflation causing prices to shoot up, many people will have to cut back on luxuries.
As winter approaches and fuel costs set to continue to rise, many are feeling the pinch.
Simply going to the pub could be viewed as extravagance, but some publicans in the borough are attempting to make sure that people are still able to afford a humble evening out.
Across its two venues, Eat & Drink in Breightmet and Bar & Grill in Little Lever, Henighan’s has introduced its most recent seasonal menu, with deals and discounts which have already got people through its doors.
On the announcement of its new ‘Autumn Recession Beating Menu’, Henighan’s managing director Nick Howcroft said: “We have tried to cut our costs as much as we can to reduce prices but also keep the quality.
“We’ve reduced as much as we can. It’s hard but we want to try and help out as much as we can.
“We’ve been really busy which is good. We’re really pleased that we’ve been able to do out part and everybody is happy.”
Nick says Henighan’s will continue to provide its customers with affordable options for “the foreseeable future”, and the price cuts are not just for the food.
“We’ve done it across both sites and we’re also doing it on the bars. There’s offers on lots of beers – Coors, Carlsberg, Madri, Carling.
“There’s lots of drinks discounts every week. Next month we’ll be introducing a pound a pint too.”
Nick says he was also pleased to announce that both sites have this week achieved five-star food and hygiene ratings from the Food Standards Agency.
The Cross Guns in Egerton has also recently announced its ‘Dine for Less’ menu.
A spokesperson for the pub said: “As the cost of living is on the rise, the Cross Guns has created a new menu to which combines hearty food and quality while at an affordable price so you can keep eating out.”
