Tottington Methodist Church and the Tottington Centre is getting ready to hold a harvest village collection this weekend.

Following recent successful collections for Radcliffe-based food charity Porch Boxes, the church will hold the collection on Saturday, October 1 at Tottington Centre's car park.

The collection will be held from 10am to 11am and all are welcome to bring their donations of food for Porch Boxes to help those in need in the borough, especially at a time when bills are rocketing.

The most-needed items include tins of hot dogs, tuna, meatballs, ravioli, chilli, beans and sausage, stews, spaghetti bolognese, meat, and tinned fruit.

The church and centre is also asking for tea bags (40s), biscuits, savoury rice, bottles of squash, cartons of juice, instant noodles, pasta and sauce, and UHT milk.

Both groups are hoping for an equally successful collection as those previously held and encourage everyone in the community to support this very worthwhile cause.

On Sunday, October 2, the Market Street church will hold their annual Harvest Festival and Gift Service for Porch Boxes at 10.30am for those who cannot attend the collection Saturday.

Julia Rowlands, chairman of Porch Boxes, will be speaking at the service.
