Police on patrol have stopped the sale of counterfeit fragrances in Bolton.

Two men were stopped from selling them today.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “The town centre policing team recovered these 'fragrances' from two males trying to sell them to members of the public this afternoon.

“Please do not buy from people selling fragrances from a bag for life.

“They are counterfeit and do not smell as they should.”

This is not the first time that police have recovered illegal fragrances in Bolton.

In March, fragrances were found by police being sold by a group of men in Bolton town.

A community support officer had been made aware of the activity and police moved to recover the stock of fragrances.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “A town centre PCSO was made aware that several males were selling illegal fragrances in Bolton town centre today.

“Officer attended and recovered the stock.

“Please be mindful when being approached on the street.

“If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is, smells like cat wee!”

An image supplied by police of the recovered stock shows several bottles of fragrances that were being sold on the streets of Bolton town centre.

Trading in such materials is illegal as stock can often be counterfeit and in some cases made of inferior materials.

They can take the form of fake perfumes, fake colognes or other forms of popular scents.

Police have warned residents in Bolton to be on the lookout for these kinds of illegal materials and especially to be wary of anyone approaching them with suspicious seeming deals on offer.
