The sister of a "kind and friendly" man who died after choking on food at a family party has paid tribute to him.

Zsolt Kolompar was at the party in Tonge Moor on June 22, 2020, when he began choking on food.

Emergency services were unable to resuscitate the 30-year-old, originally from Hungary, and he was pronounced dead that evening at 10.12pm.

His sister, Claudia Kolompar, paid tribute to her late brother, who lived on Tonge Moor Road.

She said: “He was a very good person with a good heart and was nice to everyone.

“He was kind and friendly, and everyone knew him.

“We miss him so much we’ll never forget about him because without him our family is broken.

“I wish everyone could have a brother like him.”

The inquest at Bolton Coroner's Court heard that Mr Kolompar had drank alcohol and taken drugs prior to eating.

Mr Kolompar had been known to mental health services and had been treated for paranoid schizophrenia and given injections.

During the two-day inquest, coroner Peter Sigee heard that his family were concerned about the medication dosage side-effects Mr Kolompar was receiving.

Claudia said: “Since the dosage was increased, he was deteoriating day by day.

“He wasn’t himself and couldn’t control himself if he needed the toilet.

“He was feeling pressure and numbness in his body, so I told the nurse, I called and left messages but nothing changed.”

The family also explained that Mr Kolompar had previous problems with choking due to eating too fast.

Despite the concerns of the family, Dr R Dangi from the Bolton Mental Health Service gave evidence that the listed symptoms were normal and there was no entry in Mr Kolompar’s medical records that suggested he was having difficulty with the medication.

Dr Dangi said: “In the last review of Mr Kolompar’s treatment, there was no particular mention of any significant side effects and I do not recall if this request was formally put to me or discussed with me.”

Mr Kolompar was under a community treatment order and had regular check-ups and no evidence was found that the increased dosage led to his death.

In conclusion, Mr Sigee said that the medical cause of death was by choking and it was contributed by alcohol and cocaine.
